GI#10 Revised 5/25/2018
These bioretention basins are located within the Cramer Hill
neighborhood. Before this project was constructed, stormwater
runoff would flow directly down the streets and into Von Nieda
Park, flooding the area. The first bioretention basin, with a
drainage area of approximately 6,000 square feet, is 6 inches in
depth, 1,800 square feet in area, and captures stormwater runoff from a 2 inch rain event. The other
bioretention basin is 6 inches in depth, 1,300 square feet in area, and captures stormwater runoff
from a 2 inch rain event. Plant species placed within these basins include: Butterfly Milkweed, Smooth
Blue Aster, Royal Fern, Culver's Root, etc. These rain gardens help to mitigate nuisance flooding in
the area and reduces nonpoint source pollution and stormwater that would otherwise discharge into
the City of Camden’s combined sewer system. These bioretention basins capture 296,000 gallons of
stormwater each year. The project was completed in July 2012.
