GI#2 Revised 5/25/2018
The Cramer Hill Community Garden rain gardens were
installed to beautify the site and to intercept, treat, and
infiltrate stormwater runoff from the surrounding
neighborhood. These rain gardens help to mitigate
nuisance flooding in the area and reduces nonpoint
source pollution and stormwater that would otherwise
discharge into the City of Camden's combined sewer
system. At this site, existing soil was excavated and used
to create shallow berms. Remaining soil was removed
from the site and disposed. For adequate filtration, ~8 cubic yards of a 50% sand 50% compost
soil mix were tilled into the existing soil. ~2 cubic yards of topsoil were applied to provide additional
nutrients for the plants. Plants for the rain garden included: Black-eyed Susan, Foxglove
Beardtongue, Grey Goldenrod, New England Aster, Purple Coneflower, and Sweet
Pepperbrush/Summersweet. For each rain garden in this site, the drainage area is 1,000 square
feet while the rain garden area is 200 square feet. The Cramer Hill Community rain gardens
capture 63,000 gallons of stormwater per year. The rain gardens were completed in June 2010.
