GI#34 Revised 5/25/2018
At this site, located in the Cooper Grant neighborhood, the
deteriorating sidewalks have been removed and replaced with
permeable surfaces that promote groundwater recharge. A
pervious concrete sidewalk has been installed along with a 1,600 square foot rain garden that is
designed to intercept, treat, and filter the stormwater runoff from the adjacent roadway. A 300-
gallon rainwater harvesting cistern has also been installed to collect the stormwater runoff from a
shade structure that is approximately 9 by 16 feet. The collected rainwater is used to water the
existing community vegetable and fruit garden beds. Overflow from the rain garden and cistern is
discharged to lawn areas. The rain gardens, rainwater harvesting, porous sidewalk, and trees
planted at this site all help to mitigate nuisance flooding in the area and reduces nonpoint source
pollution and stormwater that would otherwise discharge into the City of Camden's combined
sewer system. This site captures 221,415 gallons of stormwater per year. This project was
completed in September 2015.
