GI#4 Revised 5/25/2018
The CCMUA rain garden, located in the Waterfront
South neighborhood, was installed to beautify the
site and to intercept, treat, and infiltrate stormwater
runoff from Ferry Avenue and Webster Street. This
rain garden, situated in the media, manages
stormwater runoff from the adjacent roadways via
two curbs cut on Ferry Avenue and one curb cut on
Webster Street. This rain garden helps to mitigate nuisance flooding in the area and reduces
nonpoint source pollution and stormwater that would otherwise discharge into the City of Camden’s
combined sewer system. At this site, existing soil was excavated, removed, and disposed of off-
site. Approximately 8 cubic yards of a 50% sand and 50% compost soil blend was tilled into the
remaining soil, then 2 cubic yards of top soil was spread throughout the rain garden. A variety of
plant species, both herbaceous and shrubs, were included such as: Black-eyed Susan, New
England Aster, Sweet Pepperbush, and Bitter Panic Grass. The site has a drainage area of 2,000
square feet with the rain garden area itself being 950 square feet. The rain garden captures 75,000
gallons of stormwater per year. The rain garden was completed in March 2011 with a rubble border
being added to the rain garden in April 2017.
