GI#44 Revised 5/25/2018
At this site, located in the Fairview neighborhood,
the existing asphalt has been removed and
replaced with 3,090 square feet of permeable
surfaces that promote groundwater recharge.
Pervious paver stones were used to create the
walkways to the front entrances of the school,
while the remainder of the area includes porous
asphalt. On top of the porous asphalt, there are seven raised landscape boxes, each 12 square
feet in size. All of the raised landscape boxes were planted with Black-eyed Susan and Purple
Coneflower. Also, a 300 gallon rainwater harvesting cistern has been installed to collect the
stormwater runoff from the rooftop of the building. The collected rainwater is used to water the
raised landscape boxes at the site. Overflow is directed to the sewer system along Collings Road.
These installations help to mitigate nuisance flooding in the area and reduces nonpoint source
pollution and stormwater that would otherwise discharge into the City of Camden's combined
sewer system. This site captures 145,414 gallons of stormwater per year. This project was
completed in September 2015.
