SCHOOL GROUPS AT WASTEWATER PLANT
A tour of the CCMUA's Delaware No. 1 treatment plant has been a popular educational experience for a long time. Recent improvements make it even better!
At the beginning of the last school year, correspondence welcoming schools to tour our facilities was issued to over 200 schools in Camden County. The response has been awesome!
Every tour is greeted by a personalized welcome sign in our Main Plant Lobby. Our tours include hands on activities in the lab, a walk through of the Main Plant with a liquid oxygen demonstration and contact with professionals in various areas of our plant operations including laboratory, pretreatment, computer and operations staff.

A fish tank in our laboratory lobby was set up which is filled with our effluent from the Main Plant along with some happy goldfish. It is one of the stops along our tour route, which really sends a strong message about just how clean our effluent really is. |

Other enhancements to our tours that are in the planning stages include the renovations of some existing laboratory space to be used as an Education Center. The Center will have audio visual aids for showing videos, posters, pictures of our Main Plant during construction, microscopes and some hands on activities complete with interactive computer demonstrations. There are discussions in place about creating a new video (in-house) which updates our current operations. As our program grows, we would like to have placards (similar to those at our Winslow Trail ) throughout the plant highlighting key "stop areas" along our tour route. |

In addition to tours at our Main Plant for students and teachers from Camden County, members of our speakers bureau visited Camden City High School and spoke to students about wastewater treatment in Camden County. Our staff has also participated in the Mathematics and Science Career Conference at Stockton State College.
